Is it Your Goldilocks Panty?
FLUX undies arrived on the period-panty scene in 2017 with a Kickstarter campaign. When they first launched, their patent-pending panties used recycled fishing nets as fabric, but they don’t seem to use that fishing-net material anymore. However, these period panties from a U.K.-based company still have impressive features, like this:
- Quality, dual-layer construction throughout
- Four-way stretch
- Thermal-regulating properties (stays 3 degrees cooler than other fabrics in warm temps, and warmer in cool temps)

One thing that sets FLUX apart is the detachable style you can get from them. It’s pretty genius and answers the question a lot of people have about period panties—what if you want to change them in the middle of the work or school day? (Keep in mind that not all their models come in that detachable style, though.)
FLUX says that you can wear their full-absorbency panties for up to 12 hours, depending on the lightness or heaviness of your menstrual flow. They absorb four times the amount of a regular pad. FLUX estimates that one pair of period panties should last for three years before you need to replace it, preventing 450 pads or tampons from hitting the landfills.
FLUX undies are made using materials that are OEKO-TEX® certified, so you can be sure that they don’t have any harmful chemicals and are generally environmentally friendly. All their fabrics are 100% vegan–they don’t use wool or other animal-derived textiles. Seventy percent of their panties are made in China, 30% in the U.K. Both of their manufacturers are family-run businesses with more than 50 years of experience. The factories they partner with also undergo “extensive audits” and are ISO and BSCI approved.
FLUX has a 14-day return period.
How FLUX Undies Work
FLUX period-proof panties use four layers in the gusset:
- The top layer, closest to your body, is moisture-wicking to draw fluid away from the surface
- The second layer has anti-microbial properties to discourage odors (using silver fibers)
- The third layer absorbs and holds moisture/fluid
- The outermost layer is leak-proof so that blood can’t get through the panties and onto your clothes
Absorbencies:
- Superlight (only found in the thong): holds 1/2 tampons worth (no fluid measurement given)
- Light: Holds 10-15ml or 2 tampons worth of fluid
- Full: Holds 20 – 25ml or 4 tampons of fluid
All FLUX panties can be machine-washed in warm water (30 degrees Celsius/86 Fahrenheit) and hung to dry.

FLUX Undies Customer Reviews
There aren’t tons of reviews for FLUX besides the ones on their website, but the reviews I’ve found are generally very positive. The one critical review that turned up said that the crotch was too narrow for them and they experienced side leaks.
“I started using these about 4 months ago. I first wanted to use them only to sleep in but now I use them all the time because they are SO comfortable. I haven’t leaked in them yet. Longest I have worn them is probably about 10 hours. On a scale of 1-5, I am probably a 3/4 in terms of how heavy. These have literally changed my life & I really think they have somehow reduced my period pain.” – Bianca H., Product Hunt review
“I leaked after 2 hours on my heaviest days…I really wanted to like the FLUX underwear because they are a UK based company, but I found the designs to be poor; the crotch is too narrow and is also quite bulky for a medium day. If they delivered what they said and did replace 4 tampons worth then the bulk would be worth it, but they don’t.” – Lorraine H., Product Hunt review
FLUX Undies Final Say
It seems that FLUX is still working out their design and fabrication, which has been involving since they debuted using recycled fishing nets.
The side-clasp idea is fantastic since it makes it easy to change the panties if you want to when you’re wearing pants or tights. They are made to absorb a lot, but customer feedback seems to say it might not really be four tampons’ worth across all models. The pricing is fairly high, but they are designed to hold up to three years’ worth of wear. Also, FLUX donates a reusable menstrual cloth to a girl in need for every product you buy from them.
