WUKA® Period Pants | Full Review

Is it Your Goldilocks Panty?

Wake up and kick ass, or WUKA, with these period panties invented by a female environmental scientist. This menstrual underwear is designed in the U.K. and manufactured in China, and WUKA states that this factory makes underwear for many well-known brands. Their manufacturer meets ISO standards and undergoes regular BSCI audits. They also have Confidence in Textiles and Walmart certifications.

One thing that’s different about WUKA panties is that they use Lenzing MicroModal fabric. According to WUKA, this fabric is CO2 neutral and 3.5x softer than fine-thread cotton. Lenzing MicroModal fabric is made from beech trees in Austria that are FSC and PETC certified. And, each batch of material is custom-made for WUKA so that unnecessary amounts aren’t harvested and wasted.

How WUKA Period Pants Work

WUKA Period Pants are made with four layers of fabric in the gusset:

  1. Inner layer (the layer that touches your body): Made of Lenzing MicroModal fabric that is soft, breathable and moisture-wicking. This fabric is on the front and back of the panties.
  2. Center layer: This absorbs blood and locks it away from the surface of the panties
  3. Leak-proof layer: Fluid doesn’t pass through this PUL layer, but air does
  4. Outer layer: Made of the same Lenzing MicroModal fabric as the inner layer

Two Absorbency Levels

WUKA period panties offer two different levels of absorbency:

  • WUKA Light: This absorbency level can hold 5-7 ml of fluid or about the same as 1 tampon. Light is a good choice for light days or to wear as backup to another form of period protection.
  • WUKA Heavy: This absorbency level holds about 20ml of fluid, which equals about four tampons. Choose Heavy for overnight wear; it can be worn for up to eight hours during the day.

To care for WUKA Period Pants, rinse in cold water, machine wash in cold or warm water, and air dry.

WUKA Customer Reviews

The main complaint with WUKA seems to be visible panty lines (VPL). Also, some users said they take several days to air dry because of the thickness of the lining, so you’ll need several pairs if you plan to use these as your only means of period protection.

“They work! I wore them on my heaviest days, and they lasted over 12 hours, so a full day. They feel a little cold pulling back up after going to the bathroom, but if you take toilet paper and “blot” it, that goes away. So comfy they feel like just normal underwear. This is my third brand of period underwear I’ve tried so far, and they are winners.” – Quinoa Songs, YouTube Review

“WUKA Period Wear has a nice design. The fabric is soft and stretchy—a little too stretchy for my taste. I could feel the “absorbent” lining in the crotch of the underwear, which is thick and feels kind of bulky. WUKA is, however, the champion in absorbing period blood. .I wouldn’t use them on an active day—for example, if I were playing sports or running.” – Lucia, Hello Clue Review

WUKA Period Pants Final Say

WUKA obviously strives to go above and beyond with using environmentally friendly fabrics. The reviews generally indicate that the fabric is comfortable, which is especially nice when you’re menstruating. They keep their choices to a minimum with really just one style in two absorbencies: heavy or light, plus the one for tweens. They seem to take a Zen approach of “do just one thing and do it well.” With PUL to stop leaks, the ability to absorb up to 20ml of fluid and fabric made from sustainable beech trees, WUKA Period Pants are a solid choice in period wear.
